Bible and science as opposed?

First, the Bible is not a scientific treatise. Its purpose is not to explain the technical data of the natural world in scientific terms, but to clarify the purpose and relationship of God with man and to analyze spiritual things by showing us the true origin and consequences of events. It is not’ written as a technical manual for scientists.

The Bible's descriptions of nature are expressed in nontechnical terms so that even the general reader can understand the meaning. This does not mean at all that such statements are wrong, but that they were written from the point of view and in the language of a current observer, intended for a very general readership. Although some of the Bible was written in an era when imaginative and extravagant ideas about the world prevailed, it proves to be unique in its expositions of creation, on nature, about God, etc.. Compared to other writings of the same period, the Bible is the most serious and credible.

The nations of antiquity were predominantly polytheistic and followed forms of religiosity diametrically opposed to that of the Bible, which instead guaranteed and presented the only monotheism of ancient times. In the Bible the statements regarding scientific issues are certainly of a far higher level than those in other literary works of the time. In fact, it does not contain imaginative concepts about the world or the elements, while even the learned Greek philosophers had absurd notions about light, creation and astronomy, not to mention their religious world.

For example the Vedas, which are the sacred books of ancient India, they teach that the moon is about 150.000 miles higher than the sun and shines with its own light; that the earth is flat and triangular and earthquakes are caused by elephants colliding beneath it. Now we listen to such things as if they were fairy tales, but at that time they were taught as truth and were taken into consideration by the majority, and even if we wanted to force ourselves to find an allegorical meaning, it would be difficult. It was also Ptolemy who asserted that the earth was flat, while the Bible contains no such absurd statements, rather 700 years before Christ, in the book of the prophet Isaiah (40:22) and even before, in the book of Proverbs (8:31), he tells us that even then there was the concept of the sphericity of the earth.

E’ it should also be noted that the very origin of modern science is based on the truth of Scripture. The fact that there is a God who created and designed a well-ordered universe, it pushed men like Newton to research and then discover some scientific laws to explain this order. Therefore science, rather than undermining the foundations of biblical authority, he discovers his origins there, though, the Holy Scriptures being immutable, they can't, always and in everything, agree with science, whose cognitions and assumptions are changed day by day.
